The MUTHIAH POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE was established by the Annamalai University in the year 1958, has been named after the Founder Dr. Rajah Sir M.A. MUTHIAH CHETTIAR, Kt., B.A., D.Litt., the institution is devoted to realizing the high ideals of educating the under privileged.
At a time when technical institutions were very few and sparse, the Muthiah Polytechnic College came as a boon to the people of the backward district of Cuddalore. It is also an inevitable addition to the educational complex of the Annamalai University.
The Administration of the Polytechnic College is managed by a Governing Council Consisting of Dignitaries representing different interests. The Vice-Chancellor of the Annamalai University is the Chairman of the Governing Council and Correspondent of the Polytechnic College, the Principal is the member Secretary of the Governing Council.
The Muthiah Polytechnic College is affiliated to the State Board of Technical Education Chennai and Approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The students will take examination conducted by the Board of Examinations of Directorate of Technical Education. The marks sheets and Diploma certificate are issued by Directorate of Technical Education.
The Polytechnic offers three year Diploma courses in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics, Computer Engineering, Agricultural Technology and Electronics and Communication Engineering (Self Finance course).
The admission to the Polytechnic for three year Full-Time Diploma course is done strictly on the basis of marks scored in SSLC examination and as per the reservation policy of the Government of Tamilnadu for BC, MBC, SC & ST. Direct admission to the second year of the course is also made based on marks scored, who have passed HSC (Academic & Vocational) / 10+2 Years ITI purely on merit basis.
The Muthiah Polytechnic College is an expansive institution matchless in its proportions with an annual intake of 420 students inclusive of 120 under self-financing scheme for the regular course and 90 students for the part-time courses.
The other added advantage is the introduction of Part-Time Diploma Courses of four years duration. This enables the employed people in the neighborhoods to qualify themselves with a Diploma for their personal as well as professional advancement. And it also facilitates them to pursue part-time Engineering degree courses at the Annamalai University.
Muthiah Polytechnic College is a Government Aided, Co-educational Institution offering Full-time and Part-time Diploma courses.

Organizing periodical Seminars, Skills Training Workshops, Guest Lectures, Paper Presentation Sessions and Personality Development Programmes.
Maintaining Cordial rapport with local Industries for mutual benefits.
Promoting Sports and Games.
Utilizing the services of the Alumni in various development activities of the Campus.
Presenting “Academic Proficiency Awards” for Rank holders through Endowments.
